About breed

About breed Neva Masquerade and Traditional color Siberian cats

The history of Siberian cats begins with the 16th century, in those days these cats called Bukhara. At the time of conquerors immigrants carried with themselves domestic cats who have been crossed to the wild cats living in Siberia. The Siberian breed was created in the natural way, on open spaces of our homeland. Long time in Russia Siberians remained underestimated though our Siberian cats are one of the best in the world.

In 1990 the Soviet felinological organization has approved the standard of the Siberian breed of native Russian cats.
The Siberian cat is a descendant of wild steppe ancestors therefore has a powerful large body and big brawny paws. The weight of an adult animal can reach 12 kg. As well as in many other breeds sexual dimorphism – males larger than females is observed. The head is large, wide, ears average, on the ends rounded off. From early age on the ends of ears there have to be brushes. From wild ancestors Siberians have got bunches between fingers on pads, and also a rich magnificent collar and long, fluffy wool on hinder legs (panties). The muzzle is direct, roundish full cheeks.

Siberian eyes are big, an oval form. Admissible colors of eyes: all shades yellow and green. At kittens of an eye from the birth of bright blue color, but over time color changes. Heavenly color of eyes remains only at Siberian cats of a white or colorpoint color.

The Siberian cat of a color a colorpoint is the Neva Masquerade. Such kittens are born in a usual dung of the Siberian breed, are born Neva Masquerade absolutely white, the color begins to change in a week. Tail big and fluffy. Coat rather rigid, has a dense undercoat. All traditional colors - monophonic and tabby, and also colorpoint are admissible. The color black tabby is most popular in Russia.
On character these cats very quiet, independent and reserved. Some lines are similar to dog: fearless, active and physically hardy, they have sentry skills, well give in to training, recognize only one owner in the house and like to carry things in teeth. Well gets on with children and animals and quickly finds a common language.

Siberian cats are cats-nurses and cats-doctors. For a long time these cats treated people and sat with the patient before his absolute recovery.

In a Siberian cat important not only color, and type.

Each breed has the standard on the basis of which manufacturers conduct selection of producers, and judges at exhibitions estimate quality of animals.

As an example, I will provide several standards of different systems

Standards of a Persian cat (MKEF, FIFe, WCF, TICA, CFA).

This is a cat that nature designed to survive, with no extremes in type. The Siberian is a medium to medium large, strong triple coated cat with surprising heft for its size. The cheekbones are neither high set nor prominent. There should be a slight doming between the ears and an almost flat area on the forehead. Males will have well developed jowls and females will have a more moderate look.

MUZZLE: the muzzle is moderately short in length, full and rounded. There is a slight muzzle curvature, but the transition between the side of the head and the muzzle is gentle and inconspicuous.

PROFILE: the top of the head is almost flat, with a slight nose curvature of a gentle slope from the forehead to the nose and a slight concave curvature before the tip when viewed in profile.

NECK: rounded, sturdy, and well muscled.

BODY

TORSO: the body is medium in length, and well muscled with the back arched slightly higher than the shoulders, with a barrelshaped, firm belly giving the sensation of solid weight. Moderate stomach pad or famine pouch on lower abdomen acceptable.

FEET: the feet are big and rounded, with toe tufts desirable.

TAIL: the tail is medium in length, being somewhat shorter than the length of the body. It should be wide at the base, tapering slightly to a blunt tip without thickening or kinks, evenly and thickly furnished.
